People like Steve Aoki made the world of superstar DJs an unbearable circus. The artist's job is to come to the club with his or her music (which is on a laptop these days, so they've no heavy bags to carry around), play, and that's it. What do you need underwear for, if you can just bring some? Socks? An inflatable boat?? Oh yeah, right, so they can dive into the crowd and 'sail' over their heads. Keeping in mind that there are other, humbler artists, who ask for water, some food, a hotel room and friendly treatment, what Aoki asks for (hell, he even asks for marihuana) is well out of order. He can stay home as far as I'm concerned.

While Aoki's requests may seem a bit extravagant at first (apart from the fact that he's a star, moving a lot of cash, attracting a lot of people, and he has a right to ask whatever he wants), if you read closely what he says on his blog, you'll see it's not that much. The boat is part of the show; there are people who use projections or throw balloons, he does something with a rubber boat. Who cares? The key is in his entourage, who, and rightly so, don't want to go on the plane carrying liquids (hence the mouthwash), too many clothes (the underwear and socks), who have to eat (pizza) and who, after all, aren't asking for a horse, or two tractors, or the complete works of Shakespeare to read on the toilet. Ah, they ask for Crystal. Well, who doesn't?
