Listen To Wolves In The Throne Room’s Live Performance At San Miguel Primavera Sound

A fifty-minute immersion in the Olympia band’s black metal mist

A day before the darkly-dressed groups Napalm Death, Mayhem and Liturgy came through San Miguel Primavera Sound 2012, there was already metal at Parc del Fòrum. Wolves In The Throne Room performed on the ATP stage last Thursday, one of the biggest names in new American black metal. For those who couldn’t see them (although it’s true that not even the people who were there could make out much more than silhouettes in the midst of smoke and a wonderful light show), we’ll leave you here with a recording of their performance. Lasting just under fifty minutes, in the recording, you will be able to catch some of the outstanding pieces from two of their key albums, “Celestial Lineage (Southern Lord, 2011) and “ Two Hunters” (Southern Lord, 2007). Solemn, atmospheric music, it requires extra attention—there’s a reason why the Olympia group has avoided all of the artifice that the sub-genre has fallen into in recent years. Close your eyes, grit your teeth, and listen carefully.
