Listen To The New Swans Album

Michael Gira's band share “The Seer”

One hour, fifty-six minutes and six seconds is the duration of the new Swans album “The Seer”, due out on 27th August via Young God, but already available as a stream, courtesy of NPR. After taking a dive into the deep density of the LP, we can tell you that Michael Gira has managed once again to expertly mix darkness and light, beautiful quiet with ecstatic storms, peaceful passages with torturous outbursts of noise. All that, with the collaboration of a long string of stellar guests: Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker from Low, Akron/Family, Grasshopper from Mercury Rev, Ben Frost and the always intense Jarboe, a fundamental part of Swans until the band's first hiatus in the late 90s. It’s an ambitious effort, even though Gira calls it “unfinished”.
