It’s been seven years since we had new recordings from Dirty Three, that Melbourne trio dedicated to tense, electrifying instrumental rock - in their hands, even calm is tense - made up of violinist Warren Ellis, guitarist Mick Turner, and drummer Jim White. The former has been working lately with Nick Cave, whether as part of The Bad Seeds or in the recently-dissolved Grinderman; Turner has been making music solo; while White has collaborated with people like Nina Nastasia. On February 28th, Drag City will bring out “Toward The Low Sun,” a new excursion into instrumental territory, with fits of fury and oases of calm, in which nothing is what it seems and there are surprises around every corner. Starting today and until the date of release, you can listen to the album stream courtesy of NPR. To listen to it, click here. And remember that on June 1st they will be in Barcelona as a part of the San Miguel Primavera Sound 2012.
