Listen To Dan Deacon’s New Album In Its Entirety

“America” streaming

In a week, Domino will put out “America”, effervescent electronic alchemist Dan Deacon’s new album. As the title suggests, the album is inspired by the Baltimore musician’s homeland; containing a mixture of the distress and confusion arising from the economic and political situation of the United States alongside a tribute to the country’s privileged geography. Like all of Deacon’s work, it’s ambitious; this time it is divided into two parts. In the first part, the A-side of the album, we find five openly pop songs, which although they maintain the madcap spirit of all his work, also show us a lighter, more diaphanous side in cuts like “Pretty Boy” and the already-known “True Thrush”. The B-side, on the other hand, features “ USA”, a 21-minute odyssey divided into four parts, combining chamber instruments with his usual torrents of synthesized sound. An album that is as vast and evocative as the landscape that inspired it, like all of Deacon’s works, it takes repeated immersions to make out all of its nooks and crannies. You can get started on that after the jump.
