Some marriages are made in heaven. The union of David Byrne and Annie Clark of St. Vincent sounded good from the beginning; he usually chooses who to collaborate with very well and she is one of today’s most prominent indie artists. Together they will release “Love This Giant” on 4AD on 11th September. And today, the obligatory week ahead, we can listen to a stream of it courtesy of the label itself and NPR. A first taste confirms all of our suspicions: this musical alliance will give rise to some great moments, thanks to songs with a funky groove that is heir to the Talking Heads, intertwined with one of the main qualities that both of them share - their taste for strangeness. It’s not so much an album where the two musicians influence each other, but rather a glorious collaboration that brings out the best of each of them. (Although one might say the Scot wins out slightly).
