Whether it's because of the creative process, taking 20 years, its culmination, coinciding with the 9/11 attacks (making it, for its maker, the soundtrack of disaster), or simply because of the majestic and celestial beauty of the music it contains, American experimental musician William Basinski's magnum opus “ The Disintegration Loops” is one of those musical pieces with a legendary aura. Now, ten years after its release, the Temporary Residence label is announcing the first-ever edition of the complete collection on vinyl. The release will consist of a deluxe box set holding 9 vinyl records, 5 CDs and a DVD, featuring the four volumes of the work, and live recordings of the performances at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2011 and the Venice Biennale in 2008. The box will also contain a 144-page book with photos and texts capturing the last hour of light in New York on 9/11 2001, and liner notes by Antony Hegarty, David Tibet (Current 93), and Basinski himself, among others. The box set is slated for release on 11th September, the same day the work will be included in the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. According to the label, it's going to be a limited edition, both with regards to the amount of copies and the time it will be available. Don't sleep on this one.
