Icelandic composer Valgeir Sigurðsson will release his third studio album, “Architecture Of Loss”, on Bedroom Community on 24th September. The LP was originally conceived as the musical accompaniment for the ballet of the same name by Stephen Petronio. The record is based on three pillars: a small and flexible ensemble, a reduced number of musical materials and a series of digital processes that allowed Sigurðsson to manipulate the sound radically and immediately, jumping from pure tones to complex textures, from abstract electronica to folk-like acoustic sounds. The composer collaborated on the album with some of the label's usual suspects, such as Nico Muhly, Nadia Sirota, and multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily.
Bedroom Community states that “Architecture Of Loss” presents more structural unity than our man's previous albums, partly because the piece was created with the physical movements of the dancers and musicians in mind. The result is “a meticulously designed edifice, a sound architecture of musical and physical gestures and stillnesses.”
