In recent months there have been some changes with The Babies, the parallel project of Kevin Morby ( Woods) and Cassie Ramone ( Vivian Girls). They have recently added a new bassist, Brian Schleyer and, as was to be expected, they have landed at Woodsist Records - the former’s band’s record label - to release their second album, “Our House On The Hill”, which will go on sale on 13th November.
The material for this full-length was written both in their houses in Brooklyn and during a two-month stay in Los Angeles, where in February they shut themselves up to record for two weeks with producer Rob Barbato ( The Fall, Cass McCombs). Having more time and being more focused than when they recorded their debut, this time the band was able to explore musical directions that had previously only been intuited. This time around, they have added instruments like the organ, piano, sax and strings to their usual combo of guitar, drums and bass. The LP has been described as “simple yet thoughtful; familiar yet haunting. Sweet but sombre.”
For the moment, we have no choice but to look back to “ Moonlight Mile”, the advance that they let us have a taste of just over a month ago.
