Damon Albarn can't sit still. After the project DRC Music in the Congo, the Briton has been dedicating most of his time to his latest project, Rocket Juice and the Moon. It sees him get together with Flea, the elastic bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Afro beat legend Tony Allen. The trio will release their self-titled debut album in March on Honest Jon's. The record will feature guest roles for Erykah Badu, Fatoumata Diawara, M.anifest, Cheick Tidiane Seek and The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
According to the group members, the recording process started in Albarn's London studio. They came up with 18 tracks, which they continued working on during their subsequent meetings in Paris, Berlin and Chicago. However, it's not yet clear which of those songs will end up on the album. You can hear some of them played live here.
Though the LP promises to be eclectic, Tony Allen told MOJO that it will be funky: “It's all funk. It's groove music, music that makes you dance. The audience don’t want to sit and listen, they want to move their bodies. That is crucial, and Rocketjuice & The Moon will make them do that.”.
