Five years after “Twelve” (her last album to date, a collection of cover versions of Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, George Harrison and Bob Dylan, among others), and eight after “Trampin'” (her last studio album, released in 2004 on Columbia), punk poetess Patti Smith is announcing the arrival of “Banga”, an adventurous and exploring new studio effort recorded at the Electric Lady Studios in New York. The album, described as a collection of “Songs of celebration, concern and lament, co-written with Tony Shanahan, Lenny Kaye and Jay Dee Daugherty, on real and imagined ships,” will be out on 5th June. The closing track is a rendition of Neil Young's “ After The Gold Rush”. The first single off of the LP can now be downloaded from iTunes.
