The Flaming Lips continue to produce. Their latest, collaborative album, “ The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends”, will be out on 26th June, after having become one of the most prized Record Store Day exclusives. However, the band already have their minds on their new studio album, partly recorded already, due out this autumn. That's what Wayne Coyne said to Rolling Stone, where he also commented that they've been working in a New York studio, and that “when we get a free couple weeks at the end of July we'll finish it up.”
According to the Oklahoma band leader, the new songs "really took us by surprise” during the recording sessions for “The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends”, and they were composed “unconsciously” . They weren't intending on going back to the studio so soon. However, after recording about seven tracks “composed in strange, different spheres”, Coyne and his band mates realised they had started shaping a cohesive collection of songs. "Things happen when you're making lots and lots of music and working with lots of freaky people," Coyne states. The news bombing has only just started.
