Neneh Cherry Is Releasing A Jazz Album With ‘The Thing’ In June

“The Cherry Thing” includes covers of Suicide, Don Cherry, MF Doom and The Stooges

We hadn't heard from Neneh Cherry in years, apart from her project with hubby Cameron McVey and daughter Tyson, CirKus, the last album of which, “ Medicine”, dates back to 2009. But Neneh's back, albeit with something completely different. On 18th June, Norwegian label Smalltown Supersound is releasing The Cherry Thing”, an album recorded with Swedish free-jazz trio The Thing. The collaboration, which came about after a concert they did together in Stockholm in March 2011, has resulted in an album featuring original compositions by Cherry and The Thing member Mats Gustaffson, and cover versions of tracks by Suicide, Omette Coleman, step-daddy Don Cherry, Martina Topley-Bird, The Stooges and MF Doom. There’s no audio available yet, so we leave you with the tracklist and artwork.
