Mark Kozelek, formerly the soul of the sadly missed Red House Painters, announces a new album by his project Sun Kil Moon. On 29th May, Kozelek is releasing Among The Leaves, his fifth album under this moniker, on his own label Caldo Verde. The album title is taken from a John Connolly novel.
The seventeen tracks on the album were recorded in San Francisco between October 2011 and January 2012, and were played almost entirely on a nylon string guitar. Kozelek sounds relaxed, singing playfully about his life as a musician, expressing his love for San Francisco and Northern California, without losing his trademark melancholic touch, in some raw lyrics where there is room for irony and humour. “Creatively, I feel like I’m just beginning. The new album was written and recorded impulsively, without second guessing. I didn’t have that kind of confidence in the past,” says the Ohio singer-songwriter.
