On 28th January, Memphis Industries will put out the new album by The Ruby Suns, “Christopher”, a work that is said to be inspired in large part by Scandinavia, with its freezing architecture, high fjords, and, of course, its glossy pop. All of this comes from the trip that took Ryan McPhun, the leader of the band, to Oslo in the winter of 2010, not long after having broken up with his girlfriend and also band mate. “It is an album about starting over, but not necessarily moving forward. It's a breakup album, but as one listen will tell you, not a sad one”. This is how the label refers to the LP, mixed by Chris Coady (Beach House, Grizzly Bear).
You can already download a first advance track, “ Kingfisher Call Me”, in exchange for entering your email in the widget that you’ll see underneath these lines. As you will notice, The Ruby Suns have chosen a brilliant sound that owes a great deal to the sensuality of Wild Beasts and the enigmatic quality of bands like Purity Ring.
