Though Godspeed You! Black Emperor are still playing live, they hadn't released any new records in ten years. However, on 15th October, they'll finally come out with “ALLELLUJAH! DON’T BEND! ASCEND!”, a new effort featuring four tracks. Two of those are epic, 20-miute blocks of instrumental rock, and the other two are six-and-a-half minutes each of stabbing drones.
Word has it that, soundwise, the Montreal band pick up where they left off in 2003, having moulded the tracks over the past 18 months of touring. Their most avid fans will recognise “MLADIC” and “ WE DRIFT LIKE WORRIED FIRE”, as they are elaborated versions of two songs formerly known as “ Albanian” and “ Gamelan”, respectively. The new drones are on the tracklist of the CD version of the album, while on vinyl they're on a separate, bonus 7” single, included with the LP. According to Constellation Records, this effort is as absolutely vital, virulent, honest and heavy as anything the Canadians have ever recorded.
