Ducktails, the solo project of Matt Mondanile ( Real Estate), will release a fourth album on 28th January, “The Flower Lane”, his first for Domino. The album was recorded and mixed last summer with the aid of Al Carlson (Peaking Lights, Oneohtrix Point Never), once Mondanile had been relieved of his duties as a musician for the New Jersey band.
There are a few changes in this new work. The most obvious one is that instead of working on the songs at home, this time he worked in a proper studio. This also gave the work a more collaborative atmosphere, with outstanding guest artists appearing throughout the album. Daniel Lopatin appears, as well as Joel Ford, Madeline Follin (Cults), Big Troubles and Sam Mehran from Outer Limitz, among others. As the Domino press release says, “The Flower Lane” offers a variety of “expressive pop songs that are bright and expansive, but venture even further with forays into saxophone leads, synth lines and piano accompaniment that would have been at home on the early records of sophisticated guitar pop icons such as Aztec Camera and Prefab Sprout.” After the jump, you can now have a listen to the title song.
