Dive Announce Their Debut Album

“Oshin” will reach the shops via Captured Tracks on 26th June

We’ve told you step by step about Dive, a project that Cole Smith started last year aside from Beach Fossils. Today it’s time to reveal the arrival of the debut album, which will be called “Oshin”. As expected, Captured Tracks will be the label in charge of placing it in the shops starting 26th June. To put it together, Smith surrounded himself with people he can trust, like Devin Ruben Perez (a usual suspect on the New York indie scene), Colby Hewitt (former drummer of Smith Westerns and a childhood friend) and Andrew Bailey. It is said that the sound of the album will be both familiar and cold, drawing from classic krautrock, the dreamy psychedelics of the first era of the Creation label and the raw sound of late-80s Seattle.

The album was first outlined in a ramshackle painter’s studio in Bushwick without running water. There, Smith shut himself up in a wooden room without air-conditioning in the middle of the summer. With the help of cassettes and LPs from people as diverse as Lucinda Williams, Arthur Russell, Faust and Nirvana, and the books of authors such as N. Scott Momaday and James Welsh, he isolated himself in a world of dreams about aliens, affection, spirits, and the far-off natural world. From these inspirations came his album.

You can check out the magnificent new advance, “ How Long Have You Known?”, underneath these lines, as well as a welcome version of “ Bambi Slaughter” by Kurt Cobain.
