Bombay-Connection, the label that brought you “ Synthesizing – Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat” (the record that showed us that acid-house could have been from India instead of Chicago), is releasing “ Fire Star - Synth-Pop and Electro-Funk From Tamil Films”. As the illustrative title suggests, it's a compilation of eighties recordings by renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja for the Tamil film industry. Styles like electro-funk and synth-pop aren't usually associated with Indian music, yet that's exactly what we find on this release. Weird, experimental compositions that, nevertheless, are captivatingly poppy at heart, they prove once more how innovative some musical ideas from India already were back in the eighties.
The release has been available on CD since 10th May, while the vinyl edition will be out shortly. Here we leave you with an extract of each track, the album artwork and its tracklist.
