“Dedication”, the record with which Zomby debuts on 4AD, is without a doubt one of the most anticipated albums in electronica of the season. While we’re still recovering from the colossal beauty of “Natalia's Song” and entertaining ourselves with the claims coming from Russia about the use of vocal samples, we can now also hear a generous fragment of every song on the album. As we suspected, the record is a big step forward for the mysterious British producer. Zomby delivers his most consistent work to date, showing his skills when it comes to picking the most exciting features of his sound to take further via fusion and combination. It’s an ambitious effort featuring 16 tracks, among which we find the delicacy of “Salamander”, the hacked Arcade fantasies of “Black Orchid”, piano pieces “Resolve” and “Basquiat” and the inevitable nod to rave of “Florence”. It’s still early and we need to hear it two or three more times, but it looks like this could be his masterpiece. So far, at least.
