Yann Tiersen

Under the wings of Mute

Yann Tiersen

Paradoxes of the market: by the end of 2009, composer and multi-instrumentalist Yann Tiersen presented in Barcelona and Madrid a record which ten months on still doesn’t really exist as such. Until 4th October, that is, when it will be released by Mute, the Frenchman’s new home, under the tile “Dust Lane”, after having been announced in Summer 2009 for September that same year but never materialising as the break-up of Tiersen and his former label left things hanging in the air. Produced by Tiersen and mixed by Ken Thomas (look for his name on the credits of Sigur Rós, M83 or Cocteau Twins’ records), “Dust Lane” shows us a musician who is ever more interested in incorporating textures and electronic tones to his sonic world, eminently acoustic up until not long ago, always halfway between folklore and classical. While further details about the release have not been announced, let us remind you that Syd Matters, Orka and Matt Elliott are among the collaborators on the album, which Tiersen described as “a journey on the dusty lane that leads us to death. Not a sad thing, but like a colourful, sometimes painful, but mostly joyful experience: life!”
