A week from its release (on 21st June via DFA), we can already hear the vital constants of “Shangri-La”, the follow-up album to the tribute to the Marfa lights that was “See Mystery Lights” (DFA, 2008). Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans have once again created a batch of science-fiction stories full of intangible, surreal references in the form of ten new songs. Reinforcing their status as the eccentrics of synthetic pop, YACHT pull out their major influences, like Talking Heads and Devo (without the Energy Domes). Follow this link to the pages of NPR to listen to the album. We bet there’ll be no surprises nor disappointments.
