After giving us a taste of “ T ake Me Back ” and the title track “ Watch Me Dance ” (credited to Roots Manuva, but it will probably feature on both artist’s albums), Ninja Tune is now letting us have details of Toddla T’s album debut for the label. Though he stepped on the scene as the enfant terrible of Sheffield dancefloors with bass-heavy, hybrid and multi-racial riddims, Tom Bell seems to walk other paths on his second effort. The sound he’s famous for, a tight mix of electro, booty house, grime, drum'n'bass and dancehall (among other things), has given way to more relaxed tempos and soulful moods. “I've been busiest in the last two years as a DJ, so of course this album has a big dose of the sounds and production techniques that I'm out there representing in the clubs every weekend, but if you're looking for tops-off jungle or 4/4 bassline tear-outs you won't find them here. This is definitely still a record for clubbers, but it's the one they'll listen to at home with their mates, or every day on the way to work.”
Roots Manuva, Skream, Ms Dynamite, Ross Orton, J2K, Wayne Marshall, Shola Ama and Róisín Murphy all collaborate on “Watch Me Dance” which will be released by Ninja Tune on 22nd August.
Toddla T will be appearing at Sónar 2011. The Festival will take place from 16 th to 18th June at the CCCB in Barcelona, the Fira Gran Via in L’Hospitalet, L’Auditori in Barcelona and the Teatre Grec in Barcelona. Tickets are on sale here.
