After 18 months of hectic activity, it seems like the life cycle of “xx” (Young Turks, 2009) is drawing to a close. The timing is now perfect for publishing “The xx: Looking in From the Dark”, a limited-edition curiosity book that documents the two glorious years that have taken Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith around the world.
Polite Company and Switzerland CS have teamed-up to lunch The Tourist, a publishing house that seeks to put out a series of essays on photography revolving around two central axis: entertainment (or pop culture) and travelling. The concept is simple: a photographer, a theme, and a prestigious writer contextualizing the photographs. The first reference is a 40-page book devoted to The xx, titled “The xx: Looking in From the Dark”. The book features exclusive photographs of the band taken by Jamie-James Medina and hand-written texts by Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim. The New Yorker music critic Sasha Frere-Jones has written the prologue. They’ve just released 500 copies of the book, so hurry up if you want one. “The xx: Looking in From the Dark” will be available as of 1st December. More info here.
