Mick Collins and his Dirtbombs like to pay tribute to the bands that have influenced them the most. Nine years ago, they devoted their “Ultraglide in Black” (In The Red, 2001) to cover versions of 60’s and 70’s soul gems by Curtis Mayfield, Sly & The Family Stone, Smokey Robinson and Stevie Wonder dealing with the vindication of cultural values and identity values in the African-American community. The Dirtbombs are now back for more cover versions, this time focused on quite a different aesthetic: Detroit’s techno and house. In the Red has just confirmed the definite tracklist for this album of cover versions, which we first learned about last week. Entitled “Party Store”, it’ll feature versions recorded live in the studio of classic tracks like “Sharevari” (A Number Of Names), “Bug in the Bass Bin” (Innerzone Orchestra), “Alleys of Your Mind” (Cybotron), “Good Life” (Inner City) and “Strings of Life” (Derrick May). It’ll be available in stores—on CD and triple LP—as of 1st February 2011.
