The Bug

Spreading a new infection

The BugNow that his series King Midas Sound is over, London’s Kevin Martyn has a new The Bug album ready to be released. After listening to “Catch A Fire” (watch a video below), one realizes it’s much closer to a soothing, nocturnal, dubbed-out soul than “London Zoo” (Ninja Tune, 2008), in which The Bug sought to open new dubstep paths by way of mixing half step with industrial music and the most muscular dancehall. The label Ninja Tune will release “Infected”, a 4-track 12” which includes “Catch A Fire” (a new, mellowed and sedated version of “Skeng”, with Justin K. Broadrick on guitars and Hitomi replacing Flow Dan and Killa P on vocals); “Tune In” (a reinterpretation of “Poison Dart”, with Roots Manuva on vocals); a remix of “Skeng” by Autechre, and a re-dub of “Poison Dart” by Scratcha DVA.). “Infected” is out on 15th November. For fans of Martyn’s dub side: there’s a new album coming up featuring the “dub battles” waged between him and Adrian Sherwood. The Bug - “Infected”01. Catch A Fire feat Hitomi 02. Tune In feat Roots Manuva 03. Skeng (Autechre Remix) 04. Poison Dart (Scratcha DVA Remix)
