You should know this already, because we told you, but SonarKids will be held on Sunday 19th June this year. The children’s version of Sónar will feature two stages, SonarVillage and SonarComplex, although other spaces will be used as well, like the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB). The little ones (and their parents) will be animated by heavyweights of global dance music like Buraka Som Sistema and legends of the British radio waves like Gilles Peterson, a great connoisseur of music from all over the planet, thanks to his never-ending search for new sounds and rhythms for his show “Worldwide”. Pop-punk duo Papa Topo, rhythmical and melodic pop group Polock, the sung stories of Barbara i Els Morenos, the DJ set by Angelo Palma aka Amarelo, and the set by the kids DJ collective Electro Pioneer DJ Kids complete the line-up.
True to its name, the 3rd Festival of Music and Creative Experiences for children and parents will complete its offer with other non-musical activities and creative experiences so that parents and children can enjoy themselves and learn, approaching several artistic disciplines in a new and original way. There will be street dance and beatbox classes, musical stories by Vie Vide Kids, a theatrical piece of “Donde Viven Los Monstruos” (the Maurice Sendak classic, adapted by Sònia Gómez), a DJ workshop organised by Microfusa, and a musical composition class by Guillamino.
Furthermore, as a special addition for this year, SonarKids incorporates the projection at the SonarHall of animated short films (presented in collaboration with Belgian youth film festival Jeugdfilm, in two sets: one for kids over three, another for kids over eight) and the multimedia art exposition OFFFMàtica :: Other Mirrors, with interactive works by international artists, such as the machine that paints portraits with laser and the transformer of shadows in pixels, among other things.
With the comfort of children and parents in mind, Sónar will provide a picnic area with high chairs, a sleeping area with cradles, hammocks and room for nappy changing, a parking for prams and a play centre. SonarKids will also adapt the sound system to the children’s auditory abilities.
