Sónar has just revealed the first details of the third edition of SonarKids, which will return to its origins this time, being celebrated on Sunday 19th June, as the final part of the “adult” version of the festival instead of the week before, as in 2010. SonarKids 2011 will feature two stages, SonarVillage and SonarComplex, although they will be located in other spaces of the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) and Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB). The first confirmed names are Buraka Som Sistema, whose exciting live show will likely be great for the little ones, BBC Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson, naïve punk-pop duo Papa Topo, the sung tales of Barbara i Els Morenos and children’s DJ outfit Electro Pioneer DJ Kids.
As usual, there will be other musical and non-musical activities as well, such as the street dance masterclass, the construction of sonic cubes, the DJ workshop, a theatrical representation of Maurice Sendak’s classic “Where the Wild Things Are”, among other projects, which will soon be revealed by the festival. The big novelty is the inclusion of OFFFMàtica in the program, where some interactive pieces will be presented, such as a laser-powered drawing machine and a shadow pixel transformer. And then there’s the projection of several short films in collaboration with Belgian youth film festival Jeugdfilm. More details soon.
