Sónar announces a new batch of additions to its line-up. After two first first-rate confirmations ( Steve Reich, key figure in the school of repetitive American minimalism, and Magnetic Man, maximum representatives of dubstep crossover), now it’s time for Sónar to diversify. Because, we remind you, Sónar will once again set up camp in Galicia (for a second year, with a festival in parallel to the one in Barcelona), and hold two new editions of SónarSound in London and Tokyo.
News: Steve Reich, at L'Auditori in Barcelona on Thursday 16th June, in the company of instrumental ensemble bcn216 and vocal group Synergy Vocals, will modify his repertoire: the programmed “Music for 18 Musicians” is joined by “Double Sextet”, one of his most recent compositions, which was awarded a Pulitzer Prize last year.
Furthermore, Sónar has confirmed the presence at both Barcelona and A Coruña of Underworld and Salem. Underworld will be at Sónar playing their hits and presenting new tracks from “Barking” (Cooking Vinyl, 2010), a record that recovers their most progressive punch in mass dance music. Salem will be playing their recent “King Night” (IAMSOUNDS) record, already regarded as the best representative of witch house (don’t miss the interview we’re putting online today).
Appearing only in Barcelona will be: DJ A-Trak (50% of Duck Sauce), the mature and introspective hip-hop of Atmosphere (Slug and Ant plus band), the elusive Hype Williams (narcotic, lo-fi pop psychedelica), Little Dragon (Swedish electronic dub-funk-pop), Tyondai Braxton (definitively detached from Battles, he will be presenting his orchestral fantasy “Central Market), and Sónar regular Mary Anne Hobbs, this time not as the mentor of the SonarLab stage but as a DJ at SonarPub.
Also confirmed are Buraka Som Sistema for the new edition of “A Taste Of Sónar” at the Roundhouse in London (19th March). SonarSound Tokyo presents DJ Baku, Y. Sunahara, DJ Krush and DJ Scotch Egg and big international names like Battles, Kode9, Flying Lotus and Seefeel. Tickets for SónarTokyo (1 – 3 April at ageHa - Studio Coast) will be on sale as from tomorrow, 18th December.
