Those among you interested in Anticon—especially in their more heterodox references—will surely remember 13&God, that unusual project that, back in the first half of 2005, rounded up Germans Markus Acher, Micha Acher and Martin Gretschmann (three fourths of The Notwist) with Adam Drucker (a.k.a. Doseone), Jeffrey Logan (a.k.a. Jel) and Dax Pierson, members of that ant community also known as Themselves. One has to listen to this hybrid project—oftentimes halfway between electronic pop and weird rap—to find the seed of Saroos’ new release, an album presented as the second instalment of that “cultural exchange” initiative 13&God.
This time around, the “Anticon touch” is provided by Odd Nosdam. The ex-cLOUDDEAD figure has produced the songs on “See Me Now”, the fruit of the second collaboration between Florian Zimmer (Iso68, Jersey), Christoph Brandner (Lali Puna, Console) and Max Punktezahl (The Notwist, Contriva) around a multi-genre musical framework that flirts with cosmic-flavoured analogical electronica, krautrock, No Wave, tangential hip-hop and concrete collage. The album was recorded in Berlin, Weilheim (The Notwist’s HQ) and Berkeley (where Odd Nosdam has a studio) and, in keeping with the spirit of multilateral collaboration, the album will be released by Anticon and Alien Transistor (The Notwist’s label). In stores on 9th November.
