After the reissues of his most classic albums and even a recent “best of” (conveniently titled “ His Greatest Misses ”), over at Domino HQ they’re preparing for the release of a new collection of tracks by veteran Robert Wyatt. This time the former Soft Machine man is backed by sax player Gilad Atzmon and violinist Ros Stephen to compose and record a “cycle of songs” (nine original compositions and versions of jazz oldies like “In a Sentimental Mood” and “What a Wonderful World”) which, according to Domino’s press release, “place Wyatt’s voice (and whistling) amid the seductive drama of string quartet, alto saxophone, and the universal rhythms of the night.” What could they mean by “universal rhythms of the night” ? The album, entitled “For The Ghosts Within” is credited to Wyatt, Atzmon and Stephen, and will be released in the usual formats on 11th October.
