The musical promiscuity of Mark Pritchard is running wild. After putting his name to one of the undisputable records of the year with Africa Hitech, now he joins forces with Trim, one of the most personal MCs in grime, to release a 12” on Planet Mu under the alias Pritch & Trim. On Pritchard’s debut for Mike Paradinas’ label (a historic debt is settled now), the Briton presents two grime tracks with different atmospheres, each linked by their heterodox vocation and allergy to commonplaces. On “Stereotype” we find a beat made with brass instruments which could be the soundtrack of a sketch show, were it not for the diabolical Moog passing out low frequencies. “Kiss My Arse”, on the other hand, is an almost dubby track, hypnotising with its jungle-like percussion. The phlegmatic Trim unleashes his very British flow over the beats, giving us two refreshing track that remind us that grime can be not only filthy, but have a bark and a darkness to it. For now, you can listen to fragments of the tracks here. The record will be out on 5th September.
