Next Monday the carnival comes to your home –and/or workplace- courtesy of PlayGround. We’re not talking about the fancy dress one celebrated in February, but the celebration taking place every August in London. Since1966 August bank holiday has been the time of the colourful Notting Hill Carnival, a Caribbean-flavoured street festival that over the years has established itself as an institution of the soundsystem culture, connecting the old Jamaican sounds with the modern bass music.
For the third year in a row, Red Bull Music Academy will have their own stage at the Notting Hill Carnival. Heavyweights of bass music like Major Lazer (the dancehall armada led by Diplo and Switch), Poirier (the Canadian will visit Notting Hill in the company of Face T), Joker (the grimey dubstep prince who we suspect will be in a splendid mood, what with his recent signing to Unversal), Drop The Lime (the leading man in wobble house will dedicate his Carnival set to another of his great passion of his, rockabilly), Douster (the Frenchman based in Buenos Aires, associated with the gang of Latin folklore innovators-by-way-of –electronic-bastardisation from Zizek Records) and last but not least David ‘Ram Jam’ Rodigan, the respected veteran rudeboy addicted to reggae and dancehall. RBMA Radio will be broadcasting all the goings-on on their stage and you can access the live stream here at PlayGround, from 12 pm until 7 pm. Take note, because it’s going to be big.
