Yesterday, the organisers of the Mercury Prize revealed the nominees on the 2011 shortlist. This year, there’s something for everyone: former winners (Elbow and PJ Harvey), illustrious debutants (Katy B, Anna Calvi, James Blake), collaborations for the connoisseurs (King Creosote and Jon Hopkins), new heroes of UK rap (Ghostpoet), resurfacing bands (Metronomy) and artists unknown to the pop masses (the pianist Gwilym Simcock). Check out the complete list to the right of this article. The award ceremony will take place on 6th September and the winner will receive – in addition to the trophy - a £20,000 prize. The 2010 winners were The xx, with their eponymous debut album.
