Memory Tapes

Second album in July

Memory Tapes

It seems like a longer time ago, but it was only early 2009 when the dodgy label “chill-wave” entered our lives. And with it, artists like Dayve Hawk, the true soul of Memory Tapes. Yesterday, Carpark and Hawk himself confirmed that the follow-up to the brilliant “Seek Magic” (Acéphale/Something In Construction, 2009) is finished and ready for release on 4th July (a day later in the United States). Carpark will take care of the release in North America, while Something in Construction and Inertia will do so in Europe and Australia, respectively. According to the press release, “Player Piano” is full of “keyboard-based psychedelic girl-group songs”, recorded at his home studio in New Jersey. The final tracklist of the album is unknown as of yet, but we do know that “Today Is Your Life”, the track that was included on the Love Sic Disco compilation (Something In Construction, 2011), will be part on it, albeit a different version.

We’ll have to digest “Player Piano” quickly, because the label also announced on Twitter that Hawk is already working on his third album. That effort will be more inclined towards guitar-heavy space rock. There will be enough Memory Tapes to go around for a while.
