Over at Matador they’ve decided to celebrate the first 21 years of life and success with style. The Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas will be the setting on first weekend of October for three consecutive days of live performances by Pavement, Sonic Youth, Belle & Sebastian, Superchunk, Yo La Tengo, Cat Power, Come, Girls, Spoon, Guided By Voices, Fucked Up, Cold Cave, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Guitar Wolf, Times New Viking, Kurt Vile, The Clean... A real paradise for indie-rock lovers. Moreover, to mark the anniversary, Matador has just announced the release of a grand six-CD box set, “Matador at 21”, including the best hits of the label’s history so far.
“Matador at 21” includes five CDs of remastered tracks chosen from the Matador catalogue and a sixth CD of live recordings—Pavement, Cat Power, Mogwai and Bardo Pond among others—from the label’s 1999 10th anniversary shows in New York. Along with the CDs, Matador at 21 will include an 85-page book that documents the label’s history and, as a commemorative item, a collection of Matador poker chips designed especially for the occasion. For photos and full tracklist, visit the Matador blog.
Proceeds from the box set will go to three charities chosen by Matador’s owners: Jane Addams Hull House Association, Ali Forney Center and the Heart Institute at Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
