She has said so herself. Eight months after announcing the end of her Experimental Show on BBC Radio, Mary Anne Hobbs returns to the radio waves, this time on prime time and under the wings of Xfm, the first radio station she found herself a home on, 20 years ago when it was still a pirate radio station driven by the passion of a few youngsters who were convinced of a different way of making radio. Two decades later, Xfm puts its trust in Hobbs again. Starting on 9th July, the “godmother of dubstep” will be broadcasting from Manchester via Xfm.com. Her new show, as of yet nameless, will be broadcast on prime time on Saturday. What can we expect? “ future sound and guest mixes from the most forward thinking artists on earth. Dubstep, UK funky, minimal techno, deep house, hip hop, electronica, grime, neo-folk and art house rock... no holds barred.”
Before the show starts, Hobbs will use her gigs at parties and festivals to produce a series of “Audio Postcards”, which will be broadcast from mid-April onwards. Remember that in June, Mary Anne Hobbs will be playing at Sónar Barcelona. Get your tickets here.
