There’s only five days before the release of “Room(s)”, the new album by Travis Stewart (one half of Sepalcure) under his Machinedrum alias. Though we’d already heard some extracts from it, we can now listen to the whole record, courtesy of The Hype Machine. As you’ll know, it’s a seductive dichotomy of accelerated rhythms and calm silky moods. Taking elements from the ambient jungle productions of the post-rave era, the New Yorker has created a sound that - in spite of going at high speed - manages to transmit feelings of serene placidity. He builds atmosphere through samples of R&B, ecstatic pianos, abyssal synths, brazen vocals and all kinds of rave abstractions. Have a listen, then look for it in your favourite record store from the 25th of this month, courtesy of Planet Mu.
