With the spring season comes, like every year, the festival stress. One of the most respectable events on the international electronic music calendar, the Canadian festival MUTEK, has just released the first names of the artists performing at its 12th edition. The event will be celebrated at the various indoor and outdoor spaces of the Quartier Des Spectacles in Montreal, between 1st and 5th June. Among the thirty-something names confirmed are Four Tet, Modeselektor, James Holden and the wizard of kinetic samples and rhythms Amon Tobin.
There’s also room for veterans of analogue experimentation of the industrial kind, like Mika Vainio, students of the kosmische psychedelica and electronic Kraut school of techno like Luke Abott, champions of abstract and minimal low-end techno like Emptyset, new garage jugglers such as FaltyDL, recent revelations like Floating Points, Jacques Greene and Gold Panda, and of course there’s the home front led by generals Akufen (dishing out sharp micro-house under his Horror Inc. moniker), Deadbeat and Babe Rainbow. The early bird tickets cost $175 Canadian. You can get them from the festival website.
