We’ll never know if he did it because he really meant it or whether he was calculating the promotional use of the stunt in his favour, but the confessional statement Kanye West published last week via Twitter revived the memory of his rant against Taylor Swift in 2009 VMAs. Images of West’s embarrassing interruption of Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech were screened at the 2010 MTV Music Awards, celebrated yesterday at Los Angeles Nokia Theatre. The Nashville-born artist used them before singing a new song, dedicated to him (the title says it all), “Innocent”. Soon after that, Kanye responded with “Runaway” (check out our Media section today), a song included on his new album that many have interpreted as an apology to Taylor Swift.
The Taylor Swift affair was one of the most talked about moments in a ceremony which had a great winner in the ever flamboyant Lady Gaga. Clad in a “meat dress”, Gaga got on stage to accept one of the 8 statuettes she was awarded, seven of them for her video “Bad Romance”. Lady Gaga was the biggest star on a night with the following laureates:
