Barcelona’s label spa.RK, the illustrious home of .tape., Bradien and bRUNA, among others, has just announced the impending release of the debut album by Cantabria-born Paul Herrera, a.k.a. Luap, a young bedroom producer and lover of reggae and black sounds who usually hangs out in that diffuse space that blends folktronica, modern urban dub, off-kilter downtempo, electronic funk and the most abstract and precious IDM. The album is entitled “Dobra” in reference to Monte Dobra, the highest peak of Sierra de los Hombres, a karstic massif that extends parallel along the Cantabric coast. In Monte Dobra, archaeological remains (Palaeolithic cave art, epigraphic remains dating from 161 AD) co-exist with mining developments, a situation of contrasts that serves as a metaphor Luap’s work, which mixes natural and organic elements (bass, guitars, landscape recordings, percussion) and electronic cut-ups. The album will be available digitally and on vinyl (a limited edition of transparent vinyl) at the beginning of November. If you want to listen to “Dobra”, visit spa.RK’s site on Bandcamp or use the player you’ll find below the album info.
