Lloyd Miller & The Heliocentrics

Mixtures in the key of Oriental Jazz

Lloyd MillerIn the wake of their highly acclaimed collaboration with legend of Ethio-jazz, Mulatu Astatke, the combo of English lovers of deep jazz, funk, Afro rhythms and exotic psychedelica by the name of Heliocentrics have found a new partner for their musical adventures in the elusive multi-instrumentalist Lloyd Miller. You will know Miller as a musician schooled in jazz (playing with Eddie Harris, Don Ellis and Jef Gilson), cultural journalist and ethnomusicologist interested in the sounds of the Middle East (especially of what used to be Persia), thanks to works like Oriental Jazz or the recent panoramic compilation A Lifetime In Oriental Jazz (Jazzman, 2009). It was because of this compilation that the Jazzman folks invited him to the UK for recording sessions in the company of Nostalgia 77 and The Heliocentrics. Some of the results of the sessions can be heard on an EP released last year. Now the sessions have been released on LP format, untitled, but already available digitally through the Stones Throw website. The double vinyl will be out on 31st August via Strut.
