In May, at almost the same time as the final details of “ How I Got Over” (Def Jam, 2010) arrived, ?uestlove took advantage of an interview with Rolling Stone to warn the world about another interesting project The Roots are involved in: a cover album of obscure –or at least not at all obvious- soulful songs from the sixties and seventies with a socially conscious message, featuring R&B and neo soul singer John Legend. This album is now ready for publication on Sony Music on 21st September. Baptised “Wake Up”as a tribute to the first song Legend and The Roots ever covered together (this tune, originally by Arcade Fire, is not on the album), the record includes adaptations of songs originally sung by Marvin Gaye, Nina Simone, Donny Hathaway, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Baby Huey and the Babysitters and Roberta Flack, among others.
