The young Jamie Smith has other projects going on besides The xx to keeping him occupied. Last summer, Jamie played twice at Germany’s Melt! Festival. Firstly, with his band, and secondly under the moniker of Jamie xx, a one-person project with a dubstep base. Now, besides investing the money that came with the Mercury Prize on building a new recording studio for The xx, Jamie is releasing his first solo single, “Far Nearer”, which was premiered last night on Xfm’s show “X-Posure”.
In a statement to Xfm.co.uk, the brains behind The xx explained: " It's a tune I made on one of our short breaks from touring and I was eager to make some new music. I got a steel pan and made this track and it is coming out on Numbers Records in about a month or so." So that’s it. The single will be released near to early November by Numbers, though Jamie is still looking for the name he’ll use for his first solo 12”.
