“New Primitivism” duo High Places have their third album ready for Thrill Jockey. After making their debut with the excellent “High Places” (Thrill Jockey, 2008) and last year’s follow-up “High Places vs. Mankind” (Thrill Jockey, 2010), Rob Barber and Mary Pearson present “Original Colors”, 10 new portions of their unmistakable sound - halfway between percussive experimentation, candid pop and expansive synthetic psychedelica. The complex syncopated rhythms are as important as the angelical voice of Pearson, merging to a whole where textures and melodies share a specific weight. “Original Colors” is the first record the couple recorded entirely in the LA studio, after moving from Brooklyn to California. According to them, the songs include references to Australian Flora, the northern Mexican Desert and the Indian Ocean. The album is slated for release on 11th October.
