Happy days for fans of Grizzly Bear. Although some people will be disappointed, too... In early 2010 we told you about the latest capers of the New Yorkers in the field of soundtrack music. Apart from ceding various songs to the soundtrack for “Jack Goes Boating”, directed by and starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, the band confirmed at the time their involvement in “Blue Valentine”. The idea was that this film, directed by Derek Cianfrance, would feature an original score, especially written by group who made “Veckatimest” (Warp, 2009). In the end, as The Playlist reports, when the release date of the film was unexpectedly brought forward and it was impossible to get an original score finished in time, both parties decided they would use twelve known songs by the band, including instrumental versions of several songs. The soundtrack also features additional tracks by Department Of Eagles (the other project of Daniel Rossen, singer and guitarist of Grizzly Bear), Penny & The Quarters and Ryan Gosling, who stars in the film alongside Michelle Williams. The soundtrack to the film (which is in cinemas now) will be released on 1st February via Lakeshore Records.
