Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett want to get you in the Christmas spirit. A week ago on the Gorillaz website, an Advent calendar appeared where, as the custom goes, you can discover a new present every day –behind the scenes videos, little animated games, patterns to make masks of the band members’ faces– in the countdown to Christmas. When they launched the almanac, the twosome said there would be an extra special present on the 25th, of much more substance. Turns out that the present hidden behind the last door of the calendar will be a whole new album. The record, made on an iPad, which Albarn has referred to as “basically a tour diary in the form of a record”, can be downloaded for free on Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, the calendar will reveal the video Hewlett made for one of the songs on the album, which, by the way, could very well be Gorillaz’ last. At least, that’s what some of Albarn’s and Hewlett’s recent comments in the Sydney Morning Herald implied. You can read that interview here.
