With his first EP (you can still download it here for whatever price you see fit), he awoke our most unhealthy and twisted curiosity. And with his second about to come out ( “Cash and Carry Me Home”, which you can watch the video for below, and which’ll be in stores from 24th January), he’s got us convinced of his unique and incomparable value. We’re talking about Ghostpoet, the atypical MC who’s made his thoughtful lyrics and relaxed, almost sleepy flow his trademark sound. Obaro turned his mix of blood (born in Coventry and based in London, with Nigerian and Dominican heritage) and his eclectic taste in music (from Badly Drawn Boy to Fela Kuti, via Patti Smith and grime - the scene he took his first steps through as an MC) into fuel for his style, which is a mix of confessional rap, electronic off-kilter pop and story-telling spoken word. His first album, “Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam”, will be in stores on 7th February, via Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood.
