Forest Fire have signed with FatCat. The Brighton label has just announced that on 18th October, it will release “Staring At The X”, the New York quintet's second album. With this new effort, the band intends to move away from the Brooklyn scene - with a new sound, but still maintaining the traditional nature of their songs. Word has it the album is an electrifying step forward from their debut, “Survival” (Broken Sound, 2009), which FatCat will reissue in early 2012. The music is influenced by bands like The Walkmen and Phosphorescent, alongside classics like Television, Pink Floyd and some British dark new wave bands. Forest Fire want to add a new dimension to their sound. According to vocalist and composer Mark Thresher, “this record is our attempt to be more of an ambitious songwriter/rock band, rather than a weird folk band.” Check out the first advance track “Future Shadows” to hear what they've got in mind.
