On 6th June, Domino Radio will launch, initiated by Domino Records. Inspired by the adventures of Radio Caroline, The Peel Show and Rinse FM, the reputed London label has decided to start its own radio station that will be broadcast for... a week. With the slogan “Domino Radio, a pop-up radio station for the world outside of pop”, the station will be on air for 7 days, 24 hours a day. There will be music from all over the world (not only by artists from the label’s roster), but there will also be room for debate, interviews, concerts and more. The label’s artists will of course be the main stars. The studio will be visited by Animal Collective, Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Four Tet, Dirty Projectors, Robert Wyatt, Wild Beasts, Owen Pallett, Austra, Anna Calvi and many, many more. Offering their opinion and views on several subjects will be “tastemakers, instigators, thinkers and activists” like Dennis Novell, Bobby Gillespie and Faris Badwan, amongst others. The label describes the radio station as follows: “A dynamic schedule celebrating exhilarating alternative arts and music loaded with individuality, free expression and all manner of sounds from around the world.”
The antenna Domino Radio will use to broadcast stands on top of the Domino office building, with a pirate flag attached to it. Given the local nature of its license, Domino Radio will only be heard within ten miles of its source on 87.7 FM. If you’re not in that area, don’t worry, it will also be broadcast online. Once it’s over, all shows will be uploaded to the Internet. Bearing in mind that we’re talking about 168 hours, we’ll need a lot of time to enjoy the exclusive content. Below you’ll find a video with the introduction of some of the guest presenters.
